Thank you for your letter.
Firstly can I be clear that there has never been a bipartisan agreement between Labour and the National Government about the Christchurch earthquakes response and rebuild.
We have consistently and strongly challenged the frame and detail of the earthquake response and raised many issues over the behaviour of both EQC and insurers.
Clayton Cosgrove as our EQC spokesperson and Ruth Dyson, our Earthquake Recovery spokesperson, are regularly challenging the Minister, Gerry Brownlee, as you’ll see in this recent media statement about the specific red zone issue you’ve raised: http://campaign.labour.org.nz/more_angst_and_anguish_for_red_zone_locals
I’m attaching a link to Labour’s 2014 EQC and CERA manifesto which demonstrates the very different approach and specifics of our policies compared to those taken by the current government. http://campaign.labour.org.nz/christchurch_canterbury
It is appalling that four years after the earthquakes many Cantabrians still have their lives on hold as they battle their way through EQC, insurance and other earthquake related issues. The people of Canterbury deserve better than that and I assure you that Labour continue to fight for you and hold the Government to account.
Thank you for writing
