  1. As a Genealogist of 19 years I am HORRIFIED to read that documentation is to be destroyed…no matter how uninteresting to some, to us genealogists it could be a True Treasure! We find many snippets of information amongst the tiniest scrap of paper at times! I for one have many family living in Christchurch, the Birth place of my Mother and many other Family members! My son and youngest grandchildren all live there and I did also until the Feb. 22nd EQ. Why not give the documents to the NZSG in Christchurch to transcribe? They can be held for any length of time for legal release to come into effect if they are restricted documents!

  2. of course the documents should be retained. There as clearly been a range of crimes committed and not investigated and it adds to the criminality if the evidence is interfered with.
